We were given a second hand, small rota-stack cage for free and so debated spending so much money on a cage- but we are SO glad that we did. The gerbils LOVE it! It's roomy, so you don't feel the gerbils are too confined. The bottom tank allows the gerbils to dig and tunnel, which they love to do - scattering sawdust in the process! We have added a small ceramic pot with sand in which the gerbils bath in and use as a toilet, so they keep their sawdust very clean. When I look at the smaller cages now, I can't imagine such an active, imaginitive animal would be as happy living in such cramped conditions. Pay more! Get the bigger cage- you will have hours of fun watching these delightful animals enjoying it!

I bought this from Amazon and the Gerbils love it. They climb, jump and run all over it. It can get messy when the Gerbils dig in the bottom but you can put paper under it to catch all the sawdust. It keeps them amused for hours.

This cage is highly unsuitable for ANY pet and I will tell you why.....wire cages damage small rodents feet, regularly causing small blisters. In some cases animals have been known to get their legs caught at an angle in the wire and breaking limbs.
If you are looking for a torture chamber/death trap for your pet then go ahead and purchase this.
If you want your gerbil in a suitable cage then buy a nice 3-4ft tank and fill it with a mixture of compost and sawdust or hemcore. And then add lots of cardboard tubes and toys....your pets will thank you, trust me!
